Monday night, the West Hollywood City Council gets an Annual Performance Review for the WeHo Pickup and the numbers are good.

The Pickup provided 84,900 trips between July 2016 and June 2017, up 48% since its first year of operation.

The weekend of LA Pride was by far the busiest of the year, but July 4th and 24th, August 15 and Halloween were also well above average.

So where and when are these people going?

La Brea is the most popular starting point for trips heading West on Santa Monica, however, more than half of Westbound trips start West of Fairfax (ya lazy bums!)…

By far, most people heading East are starting their rides at San Vicente, right in the heart of Boystown.

On Friday and Saturday, the majority of traffic before midnight is heading West, and then people start heading East between midnight and 3 AM. Overall, the service averages 313 Eastbound trips and 245 Westbound trips on Fridays and Saturdays.

On Sundays, the service operates from 2 to 10 PM…

From 2 PM to 6 PM, most riders are going Eastbound, then after 6, most trips are heading Westbound. On average, there are 241 Westbound trips on Sundays–about the same as on Fridays and Saturdays–and 207 Eastbound trips.

What it looks like is that by ending service at 10 PM on Sundays, the PickUp is “stranding” riders who would be traveling Eastbound and are forced to take Metro, a Taxi or a risesharing service.

Perhaps the City can look at extending Sunday hours and see if there is demand on Sundays just like on Fridays and Saturdays as the numbers seem to indicate. After all, not everyone in West Hollywood works a 9 to 5!
